Hide no more! Wildlife set to come closer than ever

The RSPB has opened a brand new, spacious, modern and fully accessible hide at Minsmere.  The new Island Mere Hide has replaced the old one, which while popular, was dark, cramped and beginning to show signs of age.  Now all visitors will be able to enjoy even better views of Minsmere’s fantastic reedbed wildlife.

With big windows, an open layout and movable seating, the new hide is far more welcoming to new visitors to the reserve and will be a fantastic place to watch Minsmere’s star species such as bitterns, marsh harriers and otters.  The hide has been moved a further eight feet into the reedbed and has sound proofing material in the floor, meaning that visitors can get closer to the wildlife, without disturbing them.

Island Mere Hide’s transformation is part of the ongoing improvement of the visitor facilities at Minsmere, helping to connect more people with nature.
